The importance of regular home maintenance
Keeping your home in good shape doesn’t always mean calling in a professional.
While some jobs are best left to the experts, there are plenty of small fixes you can do yourself with a bit of time, a few tools, and the right approach. At Joe Bloggs Handy services, I always say: “If it’s safe and simple — give it a go!”
Here are a few common repairs any homeowner can confidently take on
Fixing a Dripping Tap
That constant drip might seem minor, but it can waste litres of water over time. In most cases, a worn washer or O-ring is the culprit.
What to do:
Turn off your water supply
Unscrew the tap
Replace the washer
Reassemble
It’s a 15 minute job that’ll save money and irritation
Re-Sealing Around the Bath or Shower
Mouldy, cracked sealant not only looks bad it can let water seep behind tiles.
How to fix it:
Peel off old sealant
Clean the area thoroughly
Apply new bathroom-grade silicone with a sealant gun
Smooth it down and leave it to dry for 24 hours
The results? A much fresher, cleaner bathroom.
Bleeding a Radiator
If your radiator is cold at the top and warm at the bottom, air is likely trapped inside.
Solution:
Grab a radiator key
Open the valve slightly
Let the air hiss out
Close it once water begins to trickle
Now your heating works as it should.
